The Ghost Had a Name

There is a strange kind of intimacy that exists on the internet.

You can know someone’s fears before you know their last name. You can recognize the rhythm of their thoughts without ever seeing the street they grew up on.You can carry each other’s burdens for months while remaining, in the most ordinary sense, strangers.

That was us.

For the longest time, I never knew your real name.

You were simply the person behind the messages I looked forward to reading. A familiar profile picture. A username. A voice that somehow became part of my everyday life.

It never seemed important.

Some people become real because you know everything about them.Others become real because they make you feel understood.

You did the latter.

Then one ordinary day, completely by accident, I came across your LinkedIn profile.

There it was.

Your real name.

I remember staring at it longer than I should have, almost laughing to myself.

After everything we’d shared, after all the conversations, prayers, jokes, and quiet confessions, I was only then learning the name your parents had given you.

It felt oddly backward.

Most people meet a name before they meet a soul.

I met your soul first.

The name arrived much later.

And somehow that made the discovery feel bittersweet.

By then, you had already become what I can only describe as a ghost—not because you were gone, but because what we had belonged to a season that could never quite be touched again.

Finding your name felt like finding the signature on a letter I’d memorized by heart.

It didn’t change the story.

It simply reminded me that somewhere beyond the screen, beyond the memories, beyond everything we never became, there had always been a real person.

Not just an idea.

Not just an eclipse.

A woman with a name.

Somehow, that made saying goodbye both easier and infinitely harder.
