There is something about eclipses that people rarely talk about.

We remember how beautiful they are. We gather to witness them, we stand still beneath the sky, and for a few breathtaking moments we believe the impossible has happened—that two worlds have become one.

But eclipses are beautiful precisely because they cannot last.

If the moon remained before the sun forever, the world would freeze in darkness. Life depends on both of them continuing on the paths they were created to follow. Their brief meeting is not a failure of the universe; it is the

very reason it remains in balance.

Perhaps that was us.

I have read every word you left behind, and I carry them with far more gratitude than I know how to express. There was never a moment when your kindness, your trust, your courage, or your love went unnoticed. They reached me. Every single one of them.

You once thanked me for listening to your stories.

What you never knew was that I treasured every one of them.

I looked forward to hearing about your day, your thoughts, the smallest details you thought were insignificant. I smiled whenever your name appeared. I admired your resilience more than you realized, because I knew pieces of the battles you fought long before we ever met.

You often say I made you feel safe.

The truth is, you became one of the few places where my own heart could rest.

And perhaps that is what makes this so difficult to say.

People often believe that love loses to hatred.

It doesn’t.

Sometimes love loses to timing.

Sometimes it loses to distance.

Sometimes it loses to responsibilities neither person asked for.

Sometimes it loses because two people can genuinely love each other while knowing they cannot build the life that love deserves.

That is the tragedy no one prepares us for.

If I had met you in another season of life…

If our roads had been built a little differently…

If circumstances had been kinder…

Perhaps this story would have had another ending.

But life is not written with “if.”

It is written with choices.

And some of the hardest choices are not between right and wrong, but between what our hearts desire and what wisdom quietly asks us to release.

You once said I helped you find your voice.

You should know that meeting you reminded me that gentleness still exists in this world.

That kindness still matters.

That faith can still be lived quietly.

That someone can love another person without demanding anything in return.

You taught me those things simply by being yourself.

For that, I will always thank God.

I never wanted you to think you were not enough.

You were never lacking.

You were never too much.

You were never difficult to love.

The reason this could not become what our hearts imagined had very little to do with who you are.

Sometimes two good people simply arrive at an intersection where every road forward asks one of them to sacrifice something they cannot surrender.

And love should never ask someone to abandon the life God is calling them to live.

So I chose silence.

Not because my heart was empty.

But because it was full enough to understand that loving someone also means refusing to build a future on uncertainty.

I know silence can look like indifference.

It isn’t.

Sometimes silence is grief wearing dignity.

Sometimes it is the final act of protecting someone from promises you are no longer certain you can keep.

You called our meeting an eclipse.

I think you were right.

Not because it ended.

But because it changed both of us forever.

No one watches an eclipse and remains exactly the same afterward.

Neither did I.

Wherever life carries you, I hope your prayers are answered in ways neither of us can yet imagine.

I hope the little girl who carried so much pain continues finding reasons to smile.

I hope the woman you are becoming never again questions whether she is worthy of being chosen.

Because you are.

Perhaps not by me in the way your heart hoped.

But undoubtedly by the God who has been writing your story long before either of us crossed paths.

One day, someone will walk beside you without hesitation, without impossible circumstances standing between you, without the weight that kept us apart.

And I pray you welcome that love with the same brave heart you once offered me.

As for me…

I will always thank Heaven for allowing our paths to cross.

Not every love story is meant to become a lifetime.

Some are meant to become a compass.

A quiet reminder that people like you exist.

That goodness still exists.

That peace can wear another person’s smile.

And perhaps that is enough.

The eclipse passed.

Not because it was any less beautiful.

But because the sun and the moon loved the world enough to keep moving.
